Picking up the trail from the swimming marketplace event at APW Berlin 2009 we invite Berlin visitors, friends, and attendees of the APW 2011 on themes of water, food, health to join our 2-day event: walks, raft-building and swimming garden team workshops, floating stage garden and Spree river performances.

DAS NUMEN artists invited us to colaborate in their H2O project – an experimental installation testing to turn Spree river water into drinking water quality with help of plants, micro-organism, mussels, mushrooms, and other biological filters. We contributed with a SPREEWASCHGARTEN – a swimming garden plant filter in a box.

Feel invited to join and explore what “Ueber Wasserlebenskunst” could be.

Vanarasi – New York – Berlin. For centuries, cities have been built from the water inward, yet oftentimes today, urban waterscapes are viewed as barriers and are limited to passive enjoyment. By exploring the Berlin Spreeraum, Indian scholars hosted by the GIZ were introduced to its history, appeal and controversy demonstrated through post-industrial architecture, temporary uses and derelict land. During this Walk&Talk, participants exchanged with us on how to negotiate cultural versus municipal interests as well as post-industrial versus industrializing processes on urban waterbodies.

The Berlin initiative Berliner Wassertisch set-up a petition for a citizens’ referendum to open Berlin’s so-far secrete water privatisation contracts from 1998. In order to initiate a broader public dialogue we organized a premiere evening for the documentary WATER MAKES MONEY by the independent filmmakers Leslie Franke and Herdolor Lorenz. Besides discussing and of course drinking water, we learned how to “Ziel-Fisch” in front of the Brotfabrik Kino Berlin. Thanks to all joining our event and supporting public discussion.

2010/04-07 Guest lecturing and co-directing Urban Design Summer Studio

We were invited to co-supervise the summer studio “Merging Sustainable Infrastructure Systems, the Poetics of Space and Culture” within the Master Program Urban Design at TU Berlin.
It was quite interesting to see, how the international students link to the idea of sustainability in the context of changing and evolving basic daily infrastructures like energy, water and food in different urban contexts and regions. We say thanks to Dr. Rafael Pizarro for the inivitation and want to congratulate the students who gained an award for their concept. Keep it up!

Along the APW Berlin 2009 we invited German and Asian traders and business partners for a hands-on-get-together to create a swimming market place – as floating raft installation made out of bamboo – whereas setting the symbolic link to the APW Berlin 2011 on themes of water, food, and health.
